Jun 26, 2015 · After years of growing support for gay marriage at the state level, on June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution guarantees the right to same-sex marriage throughout the United States. Prior to the ruling, 36 states and the District of Columbia authorized gay marriage. The favorable ruling from the Court compels all 50 states to do so.
Jun 26, 2017 · In Pew Research Center polling in 2004, Americans opposed same-sex marriage by a margin of 60% to 31%. Support for same-sex marriage has steadily grown over the past 15 years. And today, support for same-sex marriage remains near its highest point since Pew Research Center began polling on this issue.
Still other states, such as Vermont, accord to same-sex couples the rights and benefits of marriage, but call the relationship a civil union rather than a marriage. As of mid-2006, only Massachusetts recognized same-sex marriage.
Same-Sex Couples. In separate lines of research, Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Schwartz Gottman have observed the strength and resilience of same-sex couples, even in the midst of the cultural and social stresses to which same-sex couples are uniquely vulnerable. These couples — like all couples — need and deserve tailored.
